FR. JAMES WILLIAMS

This month, Our Lady invites us to pray, to love, and to gather in prayer groups, so that we may encourage one another on the path of peace.

May her words help us renew prayer in our families and in our communities.

October 25, 2025 – Message from Our Lady of Medjugorje

Dear children! The Most High in His goodness gave me to you to lead you on the way of peace. Many have responded and are praying, but there are many creatures who do not have peace and have not come to know the God of love. Therefore, little children, pray and love, create prayer groups to encourage each other to the good. I am with you and am praying for your conversion. Thank you for having responded to my call.

(With Ecclesiastical approval)

Reflection by Fr. Jim Williams

As the end of the year draws near, many of us find ourselves spending more time inside our homes. While it is easy to turn to online entertainment or cable television and indulge in binge watching, these activities, though enjoyable on occasion, should not consume all of our time. It is important to remember that the extra time indoors presents an opportunity to engage in meaningful activities, especially prayer.

By creatively seeking out good activities at home, we can ensure that our time is well spent and spiritually enriching. Setting aside moments for prayer can help us make the most of this season and foster a deeper connection with God. Our Lady’s invitation this month is to join or even start a prayer group. Hopefully everyone knows that our families should be our first and most important prayer group. However, it’s always good to get people together in small communities for prayer outside of Holy Mass and parish devotion.

Our Lady’s invitation this month encourages us to join or even initiate a prayer group. While it is widely understood that our families serve as our first and most essential prayer groups, gathering with others outside of Holy Mass and parish devotions offers additional opportunities for spiritual growth. Coming together in small communities for prayer can strengthen our faith, foster unity, and provide support as we seek to deepen our relationship with God. These gatherings complement the spiritual foundation established in our homes and help extend the spirit of prayer into our wider communities.

A good place to start is by inviting people to gather at your home or any convenient place. Here is a list of things to have available: A beautiful image of Our Lady of Medjugorje Prayer cards for the prayer meeting (booklets about the rosary) Rosary beads blessed in Medjugorje if possible A CD of Medjugorje inspired music or a song book A Book of Medjugorje messages Candles Prayer cards A small basket for petitions Spare rosary Organizing and Hosting Prayer Meetings Consider inviting people to gather for prayer on a regular basis, choosing either a weekly or monthly schedule—whichever works best for your group. You may find that rotating hosting duties among group members helps share the responsibility and fosters a sense of community. Keep the gatherings simple and stress-free by offering only light refreshments, so that no one feels burdened by expectations or extra work. It is important to maintain consistency in the timing of your prayer meetings. Respect the schedule you set, and ensure the prayer portion does not extend beyond an hour, as this helps participants stay engaged and comfortable. By keeping the meetings concise and enjoyable, you encourage people to look forward to attending and to continue participating in the group. Before starting your prayer group, it is wise to speak with your pastor and seek his blessing for your efforts. Invite him to join your gatherings from time to time. If your pastor expresses concerns or is not in favor of the prayer group, consider discussing alternative approaches that may be more acceptable within your parish community. These are only basic suggestions for beginning a prayer group in your community or in your family. If you are considering forming a Medjugorje prayer group, there are many resources available online that provide additional ideas and guidance. Pilgrims are encouraged to research and read up on these suggestions to help support and inspire their prayer group journey.

Here are some other messages our Lady has given about prayer groups: All people are encouraged to be part of a prayer group. Every parish should establish a prayer group. Our Lady recommends that all priests start prayer groups with the youth and provide them with guidance and good advice. Renewal of family prayer is called for in homes. Families are encouraged to give prayer the first place in their homes, especially after the completion of field work. (November 1, 1984) Special emphasis is placed on praying before the cross, from which great graces are bestowed. Families are invited to make a special consecration to the cross of the Our Lady’s message encourages prayer, peace, and the creation of prayer groups, emphasizing that many still lack peace and knowledge of God’s love.

Blessings await those who heed Our Lady’s call to pray. Don’t delay. Pray today.

Let us not wait to begin. May we take Our Lady’s invitation to heart and pray together, support one another, and allow God to deepen peace within us and among us. May this month be a new beginning of prayer in our homes, our friendships, and our communities.
