Day 1: Sunday - October 13, 2024 - DEPARTURE FROM USA TO EUROPE
Make your way to your local airport, where you will board your overnight flight(s). Your meals will be served on board.
Day 2: Monday - October 14, 2024 - DEPART WASHINGTON DC-DULLES
Welcome to Krakow, Poland! Upon arrival check in and, enjoy delicious dinner. Overnight at the hotel in Kraków.
Day 3: Tuesday - October 15, 2024 - KRAKOW
Today we will Tour main Market Square, as the sound of the silver trumpet from St. Mary’s Tower fills the air. The captivating beauty of this square is largely due to the fact that it has remained unchanged for almost 700 years. It contains a number of buildings that hold important historic value. Wawel Hill with the castle, its beautiful courtyard and the Cathedral (sightseeing inside: entrance tickets included). Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture of the Old Town (Stare Miasto), the biggest medieval market square in Europe (Rynek Glowny), the Town Hall, Collegium Maius - an ancient building belonging to the Jagiellonian University, the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), Saint Mary’s Church (Kosciol Mariacki – sightseeing inside: entrance tickets included) with the famous altar by Veit Stoss. A walk to the antique walls of the Old Town with Florianska Gate and the Barbican. The Archbishop's Palace, where Karol Wojtyla lived as a cardinal and as Krakow's archbishop. The Franciscan Church, where he prayed. His favourite pew is located there. Sightseeing Krakow's Old Town and the Jagiellonian University, where Karol Wojtyla studied in 1938 – 1939 before World War II. Fr. Karol Wojtyla worked with students at Saint Florian's Church school, situated at the Matejko Square. He travelled a lot with his students, who called him “Uncle”. In 1978 Krakow was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Holy Mass in one of Krakow's churches. Dinner at restaurant with a glass of wine/beer. Overnight at the hotel in Kraków.
Day 4: Wednesday - October 16, 2024 - RAKOWICE CEMETARY - NOWA HUTA - BIALE MORZA - LAGIEWNIKI - KRAKOW
Breakfast at the Hotel followed by Visit the cemetery where parents of Saint John Paul II are buried, Arc Church. Tour St. John Paul II Center followed by Lunch. Guided tour of Sanctuary of Divine Mercy followed by Chaplet of Divine Mercy before the image of Merciful Jesus. This day will be full of activity and prayers, we will end by dinner at the restaurant.
Day 5: Thursday - October 17, 2024 - KRAKOW - WADOWICE - KALWARIA - WIELICZKA - KRAKOW
Enjoy Breakfast at the hotel followed by Tour Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, the 3rd most famous sanctuary in Poland. The entire Marian complex (including the sanctuary and the park) is a World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Lunch at a restaurant in Wadowice. Visit birth place of St. JPII and, church where he was baptized. Depart for Wieliczka. Guided tour of Wieliczka Salt Mine – one of the oldest salt mines in the world. Many famous people have visited the place such as Mikolaj Kopernik, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Dmitrij Mendeleev, Boleslaw Prus, Ignacy Paderewski, Karol Wojtyla, etc. In 1978 year, Wieliczka Salt Mine was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Return to Krakow for dinner. The Last night in Krakow.
Day 6: Friday - October 18, 2024 - KRAKOW- DUNAJEC - DEBNO PODHALANSKIE - ZAKOPANE
Breakfast and check-out from Hotel in Krakow. Weather permitting, sail down the Dunajec River through the Pieniny National Park on traditional wooden rafts. Lunch at a restaurant in Szczawnica. Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and sightseeing in the wooden Gothic church in Debno: one of the 6 wooden churches in southern Poland listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. According to availability: rosary and Holy Mass in Saint Michael the Archangel Church in Debno Podhalanskie. Departure for the capital of the Polish Mountains – Zakopane – a town filled with beautiful and unique national-style wooden houses. Check in at the Hotel in Zakopane and enjoy dinner at the Hotel.
Day 7: Saturday - October 19, 2024 - ZAKOPANE AND TATRA MOUNTAINS
Explore the mountain-loving Pope's paradise. After breakfast we will go up to Kazprowy Mountain for an amazing view. Sightseeing / shopping on Krupowki promenade. Lunch. Visit Ursuline convent where Saint John Paul II stayed. Holy Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Sanctuary, dinner in traditional mountain restaurant.
Day 8: Sunday - October 20, 2024 - ZAKOPANE - AUSCHWITZ- CZESTOCHOWA
Your day will begin with Breakfast followed by departure for a guided tour of Auschwitz, the notorious concentration camp, visit the cell where St. Maximillian Kolbe was imprisoned. Lunch, depart for Czestochowa, the most important pilgrimage site in Poland, a guided tour of monastery Jasna Gora with the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary called the Black Madonna. Holy Mass in the main chapel. Hotel check in, dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Monday - October 21, 2024 - CZESTOCHOWA - NIEPOKALANOW - WARSAW
Breakfast at the hotel, free time for prayer, reflection, leisure. Transfer to Niepokalanow, lunch, visit the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and monastery founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe. Holy Mass. Transfer to Warsaw, upon arrival check in. Tour Victory Square, dinner in Old Town.
Day 10: Tuesday - October 22, 2024 - WARSAW
Breakfast at the hotel. visit church of Bl. Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko. Holy Mass.
Guided tour of Warsaw: Lazienkowski Park with the Frederic Chopin monument, the Warsaw Ghetto, and Umschlagplatz – thousands of Jews were deported from there to the concentration camps – the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Palace of Culture and Science, Krakowskie Przedmiescie Street, the Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The Castle (from outside) and St. John’s Cathedral. The Old Town was fully destroyed during World War II and reconstructed thanks to the commitment of the entire Polish nation. Lunch is followed by sightseeing and free time. Farewell dinner.
Day 11: Wednesday - October 23, 2024 - WARSAW TO USA
Early check- out and transfer to the airport for the flight to USA!
Fr. Rob Maro
Fr. Rob Maro is currently the pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Beltsville, MD and was ordained in 2015 for the Archdiocese of Washington. Prior to entering Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg MD, he served as Director of Religious Education for eight years at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in DC.
Fr. Mark Cusick
Fr. Mark Cusick is the pastor at St. Michael Church in Brandywine, MD. He was ordained for the Archdiocese of Washington in 2013. Prior to entering the seminary he worked for the National Institutes of Health as an intern. Fr. Cusick is originally from central Florida.
